The Executive Committee received a recommendation from the Community Services Steering Committee, urging the establishment of a specialised activity witnm NPVLA to cope with the prolifera tion of clean air regulations emich will be enacteo during the mb s eighteen months pursuant to tne Clean Air Act of 19(7. A statue report on Vartan Limitad indi cated that the Association's captive insur ance company will be underwriting risk* of member companies outing August 1970. and will be fully operational by the An nual Meeting. In eider to balance the Association's budget ter fiscal 1971 without an increase in dues major adjustments were necessi tated in some of the ooerating programs of the Association. Next year tnt Association will accept advertising in tne NPVLA Tear Book on a limited basis and will taka steps to make most Associstion publicstions selMiouidsting by charging a per copy price for all copies in addition to the free one te a company copy. The Associa tion's Annual Matting will also be placed on a self-liquidating basis by incressmg registration fees. The Executive Committee received and acted upon reports from four Subcommit tees of the Board of Oi rectors which were appointed to audit the activities and staff in all Divisions of the Association. This is an annual function oesignad te insure that Association programs ire contempo rary with industry needs. Final budget ap proval will be considered at the next Beard and Executive Committee meeting during the Association's 13rd Annual Meeting. October 29-21 in Boston. New NPVLA Committee Holds First Meeting At the first meeting of the NPVLA High Performance Architectural Coating! Com mittee neid recently at NPVLA Head quarters in Washington. D.C_ Committee members concentrated ueon a number of high priority topics. Committee programs discussed included plans tor development of a cread.based educational-public relations program. Tht tatter would be aimed primarily 'towarp specifiers. architects sno similar target groups. Tentative plans were made -for .forming a soeakars bureau in behalf of high performance architectural coatings manufacturers. Plans tor tha soeakars bu reau would include development of audio visual presentations directed toward po tential users of thesa products on local, regional and national meeting levels. Plans were also made for the develop ment of a marketing survey specifically oriented toward high performance archi tectural coatings. Liaison wot established between this Committee and tha Amarican Society for Testing and Materials. The Committee alto decided to review the possibility of conducting a forum at tha NPVLA Annual Meeting in OctcOer. CORRECTIONS REQUESTED FOR RESINS SECTION Tha NPVLA Statement documented the currant industry participation in the work of public health officials and other govern ment representatives at all levels in solv ing the problems related to lead poisoning, *. development of portable detection equipment and measures for removal or elimination of the hazard. In addition, reference was made to USA Standard 266.1-1964 since this had been mentioned briefly during the hearings. It was stressed that modem interior paints do not contain white lead pigments and art safe coatings. SENATE. Although five states and ten mater cities, including the District of Columbia, nave laws, regulations or ordi nances concerning tne sate and use of icad-bearing paints, tne bill introduced recently by Senator Richard S.
