In the council meeting of April 3, 1968 held in your c o n f e r ence room, itj was agreed that I w o u l d ad v i s e you by April 19, 1968 of National Gypsum Company's position relative to the printing and -distributing of the booklet entitled, "Recohimendec
c Health Safety Practices." Our position,is that we strongly oppose the publication and distribution of the booklet.
Our reasons sre:
'
1) H o risk has been shown to the g e n e r a l p u b l i c from exposure to asbestjos cement products manufactured for use in the building -and c o n s t r u c t i o n industry.
2) The p r o p o s e d booklet points to dang e r s to h e a l t h fro m the h a n dling fof c o r r u g a t e d and flat asbestos she e t s w h e n there Is no scientific evidence of such dangers.
3) The booklet creates fear in the minds of buyers, users,
and workers without Justification. These fears would be
damaging to the entire Industry.

W e agree w i t h the J-JI position p a p e r of J a n u a r y 15, 19G8, s u b scribe to the concepts of the Institute of Occupational and Environmental Health in Montreal, and are extending full co o p e r a t i o n to U. S. Pu b l i c He a l t h Serv i c e in its s t u d y of asbestos in processing plants.
