On May 18, 1978 our plant completed its fourth year of operation without a disabling in jury. Your personal effort toward attainment of this very significant accomplishment is the basic.ingredient necessary to perpetuate the safety conscious environment of our plant and ensure injury-free operation in the future. To commemorate this most significant achievement you will find enclosed a gift catalog and selection sheet for your use in selecting a gift of your choice. DeBernardi Date May 18, 1978 subject Safety Achievement - Today marks the completion of four years of plant operation at the VCM Plant without lost-time injury. This achievement is a very significant milestone that each employee working in our plant can point to with great pride in their personal contribution toward its attainment. Although the statistic is impressive, its real value goes far deeper than a number. Each of you should take a moment to reflect on the real meaning of this statistic. For a period of four years no one employed at the VCM Plant has suffered the pain associated with serious injury. Nor has the family of any of our employees been exposed to the anguish which normally falls to them when a loved one is seriously injured or incapacited. This is the real mean ing of your accomplishment. Let me also assure you that the attainment of this achievement did not just happen. Everyone at our plant iikaIg it happen. A conscious effort on the part of each employee to plan the safety aspects of each task performed with the same thoroughness as the mechanical aspects is why it happened. Taking the time to do whatever is necessary to assure the job isdone safetly is why it happened. Developing a state of mind that recognizes not just job completion, but job completion without accident or injury as the objective in our plant is why it happened.
