Dear Mr. Sofie* ,' T~> 'if~' /* l'-`t At your request the following is a summary of the case of ..i:*>. \a * *6?- ? ,'SHP Cfj' I C/-t z t -'I # / .- $S M r .f H H ) sta te s th a t he had been well u n til one morning about the 20th of October 1962 when he awoke a t 2s30 in the morning with pains in h is upper abdomen. The pain consisted of a steady aching and soreness and continued to bother him in the following days. Several days a fte r the onset of the abdominal pain he also noticed pain in his lower mid-posterior chest region. On October 29th he went to Dr. Feistkorn, who when told of the man's work h isto ry , obtained a blood fo r lead determination. This determination showed .081 miligrans of lead per 100 grams of blood. Dr. Feistkorn also had a blood smear made a t Marion General Hospital and th is showed occasional red blood c e lls with basophilic stip p lin g . During the time th a t L'cNeal -was having abdominal pains he also had generalized weakness, aching and weakness of his legs, some decrease in appetite but no weight lo ss. He denies having headache or constipation during th is period. . Lead determinations as done by B. F. Goodrich on 10-5-62 were: urine .02 miligrans per l i t e r j blood .05 - .06 miligrans per l i t e r . On 11-13-62: urine .15 miligrans per l i t e r ; blood .08 miligrans per l i t e r . Because of symptoms which were suggestive of a very early stage of lead intoxication and the re s u lt of .081 miligrans of lead per 100 grams of blood on a October 29th determination by Dr. Feistkorn, i t was recommended on November 13th th at he be removed from the lead stripping operation. '-A h ' . .* . :;v *' He stated th a t the abdominal ache continued until'about one week a fte r re moval from the operation but now he is gradually feeling b e tte r. He denios having any abdominal or back symptoms a t the present time and sta tes th at h is strength and energy are now normal. He was never re a lly anemic, having an hemoglobin of lU grams in October and 15 grans in November as determined , by Dr. Feistkorn. However, Dr. Feistkorn has been giving his vitamin B 12 shots fo r h is general condition. He has also been giving h is calcium ,, . gluconateand atropine ta b le ts fo r h is abdominal pains. ' . 1' v ..v ' ' t * '* In summary i t can be said th at had non-specific symptomatology and two deternlnations of lead in blood which were within the dangerous range (.08 11-13-62, .081 10-29-62).
