EPA ED_O01523_00003442-00001 I am writing at the recommendation of Ryan Jackson, Chief of Staff for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), regarding your possible participation in a side event to the Group of Seven, Environmental Ministers Meeting (G7 EMM) in Bologna, Italy. EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt will attend the G7 EMM this year, which is being hosted by Italy's Environment Minister. As part of the G7 EMM, Italy has asked G7 countries to invite two members from their country's academic community and three members from their business community to participate in special side events associated with the Ministerial meetings. One of the side events asks representatives from academic institutions to discuss the role and impact of universities on the economy, environment and society - what the United Nations calls Sustainable Development. The topic of feeding people, reducing food waste, and increasing efficiencies is of particular interest to the G7 countries, and your expertise in agriculture would be a welcome contribution to this discussion. The result of this discussion would be presented to the Ministers on the second day of the G7 EMM. On behalf of EPA, I am pleased to extend an invitation to you to join the U.S. delegation and participate in the "Universities for Sustainable Development" side event on June 11th as well as the opening G7 EMM opening reception on June 10th. The business and university representatives will have to cover their own travel costs to the meetings in Bologna. I apologize for the late notice, but if you are interested, please let me know as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please give me a call at 202-564-1531, or have your staff contact Hodayah Finman in my office at 202-564-1893. I look forward to hearing from you.
