Mr. Gross supplemented his remarks with a slide presen tation concerning the restructuring of the Fire Section of the Bureau and outline of its goals. Generally, there would be an emphasis placed on fire control in the building construction phase as well as finished construction. The Bureau hopes to contribute to a national program of reducing fire losses by 50% in the next ten years. Research is directed toward flame spread tests, ease of ignition studies, critical energy, and rate of heat release. JOIilT COliPOU.ID Results of the Clayton report were discussed and the final report will be distributed to each member company. A progress report of the special task group was attached to the agenda. ITEii II ilEW BUSINESS a) Texturing of Gypsum Wallboard Ceilings - The director of the California Plastering and Lathing Association had sent a letter opposing the Association recommendation on the application of heavy water base spray texturing materials to gypsum wallboard ceilings. A letter response had been made by the Association. Both letters were read at the meeting and are attached. Further response would be on a company basis to answer specific inquiries, iio further Association action is planned until the subject is discussed with the GDCI membership at their upcoming annual convention. It was thought the Association recommendation was proper in that it was an attempt to give gypsum users the benefit of the experience of other parties in order to assure better quality, control of application, dimensions, and finish. Further, it served to notify applicators of the preferred use of spray textures over 1/2" gypsum boards on ceilings without being mandatory in any way. b) ANSI Reporter - The Technical Committee recoircienaed that the Association pay the increased membership fee to ANSI in order to keep the membership informed of AilSI activities. COMMITTEE ACTION; A notion was made, seconded and passed that the Gypsum Association continue membership in ANSI, at increased cost, to inform the membership of ANSI ac tivities. pep, ex. re J id..
