The enclosed report is a draft of the results of bulk sampling at Shell Oil in Deer Park, Texas to determine the presence of asbestos in the areas to be demolished by Proler International Corp.
Asbestos insulation in the "G" areas, which are to be demolished, has been abated and there is some evidence of encapsulation. There is: however, some equipment in the demolition areas which has not had the asbestos insulation removed.
Eight random bulk samples were taken in the G-200 area on June 15, 1988. Five of these samples contained chrysotile and/or amosite asbestos, ranging from 1% to 40%. It would be difficult to certify some of this material as hazard free for transportation unless it were transported in a sealed container.
The data sheets, laboratory results, conclusions and recommendations should provide a basis for planning of activities and the safest procedure to follow.

Purpose :
Document the presence and type of asbestos found in the areas that are to be demolished by Pro!er International Corporation
Summary of Results;
Analysis of bulk samples collected during the preliminary testing reveals that asbestos is present in the demolition site. There is evidence that some encapsulant was used. There also is some equipment from which the asbestos insulation has not been removed.
Asbestos was found in five of the eight random bulk samples that were taken in the G-200 area on June 15, 1988. Asbestos was also found on the paving between the roadway and the D.D . unit.
Cone 1 us ions:
There is positive evidence of asbestos contamination in the G-200 area. There is insulation adhering to flange nuts, in crevices and on lines. It would be difficult to certify some of this material as hazard free for handling and transportat ion.

Recommendations:
Continue to sample equipment that is suspected of asbestos contamination.
Follow prescribed GSHA abatement procedures on equipment that has not had the asbestos insulation removed.
Continue to follow OSHA regulations pertaining to asbestos, the burning of lead primed steel and the disposal of contaminated clothing.
Observations;
The work areas were barricaded, all employees were wearing the proper protective equipment and prescribed work practices were being followed.
Methodoloqv:
Each sample was analyzed for asbestos as outlined in the analysis report of Chemtex Environmental Laboratory of Port Arthur, Texas.
