I rather guessed that Dr. Sayers might take this attitude which was why I brought the matter up in the first place. We are getting together a number of possible methods of labeling the trucks and will discuss the matter with Dr. Sayers before deciding which to use. I am by no means certain that the Corporation ever discussed the use of tank cars with the Public Health .Service. Mittnacht tells me that naturally the matter was discussed with you and with Machle and that his impression is that the New York office felt that if you did not feel it nec essary to ask the Surgeon General about it, there would be no reason for us to do so. I, personally, was not in on the early discussion of the matter. I think it is quite obvious that any future changes should be discussed with them. I cannot believe that any appreciable danger to the public will come out of the use of these trucks. It is true that one can imagine an accident producing injury, but this is also true of sulfuric acid and many other chemi cals which are transported by truck at the present time.
