' ' '-. : ' On May 17th Claude ^ramons of-The Texas Company,in Los 'Angeles called me to say that a Mr. Bsvin of the A.P.I. had told someone in The Texas Company*.' New York office that there was *A movement, on foot: in California, to limit the amount of tetraethyl lead per gallon in gasoline*.' Mr, hjnaons reported to me that he had contacted their Legal Department, who had heard of no such action. My first thought was that this might be in connection with the Califor nia Industrial Accident Commission. I contacted several friends with our customer companies who would be familiar with-the activities of this group, and to the best of their knowledge no such movement was on foot with this group. . .... In the above discussion, the California Division of Industrial Safety was brought up and no knowledge of any such movement was known with 'this-" group. My next approach was through the activity of the Los Angeles Smog Con trol Board. Again, through other friends with our customer companies, I learned that in discussions of the Smog Control Board lead in the exhaust gasses of cars was quite frequently mentioned but they seemed to be not too much concerned over the effect of lead. The greatest emphasis was placed on elde-hydes and sulphur compounds in the exhaust of the automotive engines. To sum up, I was unable to find anyone who had any information at all about such a movement.
