Facility modifications (a) Concrete pads with curbs and drains are being poured at the three places where wet asbestos pulp can be spilled. These pads will confine the asbestos and enable easy clean up. This work will be complete by 9/13/79. (b) A complete enclosure will be built around the Dorr Screens which separate asbestos from water. Splashes from these screens have gone onto the asphalt around the apparatus and have been difficult to clean up. The enclosure will confine these splashes to where they can be cleaned. The construction bid has been let and the work will be complete by 9/28/79. 2. Procedural modifications ( Personnel have alu'ays been instructed to clean all spills \ promptly. Now, in addition, a day's-end inspection tour S will be made by supervision each day that asbestos work ( is being done to ensure cleanliness. Effective 8/24/79. When mixing pulp on the catwalk: a. wear respirator b. slit bags and put water into bag before dumping into drum. c. wash dovm all spilled material d. put empty asbestos bags into a plastic bag and Cake to cell repair for disposal. 2. When dumping bags at the pulper: a. wear respirator b. wear disposable suit or rain suit c. wash down spilled asbestos d. put warning tag (when available) in plastic bags with discarded asbestos sacks. 3.
