Felt Mill Noise levels were measured at up to 94 dB(A) in areas commonly entered by operating personnel. Highest levels were measured in the drying section and near the trimmer-coiler operator. The principal sources appeared to be two substantial steam leaks and drive belt slippage. Millboard Machine Noise levels were measured at up to 91 dB(A) in areas commonly entered by operating personnel. This level was recorded at the /roll operator's normal work station and is apparently due to the carrier-felt beaters. A curtain is over the beaters to prvent overspray of cleaning water. It provides some noise reduction. . The placement of additional curtain material in that area will probably provide the required noise reduction. MICH08904
