Present were Messrs. Clay, Koval, Homan, Walton, Reddick, Carberry, Carchedi, Gordon, and Clark. The meeting was opened with remarks by Messrs. Koval and Clay stating that weekly Sales Manufacturing meetings would take place on Thursdays at 9 a.m. Production and quality problems would be discussed and a course of action decided upon. The topic for discussion at this meeting was quality. Mr. Clay emphasized that marginal material is not accept able and we must improve our quality. Mr. Homan discussed four types of complaints that amount to 60% of the total cost of EB complaints namely Shedding, Blistering, Shading, Off-blend. It was felt that shedding would be minimized due to changes to the turn around roll at the overlay and maintaining a minimum machine speed of 220 feet per minute. This minimum speed was arrived at following embedding tests conducted by PBL at various speeds. To combat blistering the softening pointQof #18 asphalt will be raised in an endeavor to maintain 215 MP at the holding kettles. In addition a closer control will be maintained at the coater relative to applying coating on a wet sheet . following a stop. Slate mixing procedures will be reviewed and followed with the slate basement personnel to reduce the blending complaints. Mr. Clay in closing re-emphasized the need for improved quality and stressed that,immediate measures were to be taken in improving the appearance of the finished bundle.
