DISCUSSION Envirotech's interest in RG-600 is in their Eimco, Processing Machinery Division. They make all sorts of processing equipment for filtering, materials handling, etc., particularly in corrosion resistant applications. They shaved me, for example, a plate for a filter press molded of polypropylene and weighing 250 pounds! They also make several designs of plastic girds for supporting various types of filtration membranes (including some used at Hooker Chemical in Niagara Falls, NY). They use all sorts of resins including PP, nylon and ABS; these include filled and unfilled and some which are reinforced. They have been buying an asbestos reinforced PP, but their suppliers have dwindled until there is now no one marketing such a product. They would prefer to find someone who would prepare such a compound for them, but are considering making their own. Their major interest is in polypropylene, but they would also use other reinforced resins for spot requirements. Their usage of reinforced polypropylene would be about 2 MM lbs./yr. at about a 20-25% asbestos loading. They expect that this volume will grow "much larger." We spent some time discussing asbestos health hazards and they seemed - satisfied that it was a problem they can live with. Foster Avenue Chicago, IL 60656 (312) 992-1290 According to Larsen, Plastics Trading Company was their last supplier of reinforced PP who stopped production of same because of OSHA. They apparently installed $50 M worth of dust control equipment and still had fiber counts which were too high. Jim felt that the RG-600 pellets might be enough lower in dust to allow them to use it safely and they probably would be anxious to look at RG-600. Jim also said Exxon has been working on modifying their PP resin to be more compatible with chrysotile. Whether this interest is academic or otherwise he was not sure, but he felt that Bartz would be glad to talk to us. I will check into both leads, but it appears that Bartz, Bertolucci , and Byrne ought to get together. (Sounds like a great infield!) Envirotech did not seem unduly upset about our 25-cent price, probably because they are in somewhat of a bind. I agreed to send Jim Larsen an 80-lb. sample for a one batch trial in polypropylene early in February and to check back with them later in that month.
