The Fourth Quarter unannounced competitive Safety and Housekeeping Inspection for the Shop/Craft areas was conducted on January 31, 1985. The Insulators will be given the award for the best craft this quarter. Ratings are listed below:
Insulators, Boilermakers - Outstanding
Carpenters, Instrument, Painters, Pipefitters, Machinists, Electricians,
- Good
and Operating Engineers
C General Comments
- Housekeeping in all shop areas was very good to outstanding.
- There seems to be some confusion on the hoist, rigs, etc. inspection procedure. New procedure instituted last year specifies annual contractor inspection with quarterly internal inspections. Is quarterly inspection being done and where is documentation of inspection?
- Insulator group conducting weekly safety meetings on Monday morning prior to start of work week (in addition to monthly meetings). Recommend that other groups consider use of more frequent safety meetings to aid in maintaining high levels of safety awareness.
- Need to consider lockout of power assisted equipment to prevent unauth orized or non-skilled personnel from using on off-shifts. Insulator and Carpenter Shops currently lockout equipment.
- Recommend placement of safety log books in centralized location; not buried in office area (Instrument Shop area good example).
Eyebath and safety showers in Main Shop should be highlighted. They tend to blend into the structure.
Overall knowledge of procedures both plant and department was very good in all areas.
