We propose to conduct a product liability study for the Models 800, 890 and 880 brake shoe grinders. This study will focus upon the following areas : 1. Engineering - The engineering design aspects of the machine will be examined, including the type of consideration given to operator error, misuse, or abuse of the equipment. The type of design testing which has been conducted will also be reviewed. 2. Quality Control - The quality control system as it relates to these three pieces of equipment will also be reviewed. This will include the type of incoming inspection or testing done on purchased parts, finished product testing and inspection, as well as the documentation and recordkeeping aspects of the quality control function. 3. A review of printed literature and information on the products will also be conducted. This includes warning and precautionary labels on the products themselves, sales catalogs, and operating instructions. The study will result in a written report to Ammco, con taining all our analyses of the present product liability exposures of the equipment and recommendations on how these exposures can be controlled.
