Carr R.J. Eckman lalytical Laboratory File The submitted defoamer samples were evaluated with the following results: 1. Apparatus and Method The following is a brief outline of the method of evaluation used: a vertical centrifugal immersion pump was fitted with 1/4" tubing to recycle a 1$ sodium lauryl sulfate solution contained in a stainless steel bucket. A foam rise rate was established by recycling the above solution without antifoam addition. A time of eleven (11) minutes was established for a foam rise of four (4) to six (6) inches. This time was used as a standard time for the antifoams evaluated. 2. Evaluation a. Tributyl Phosphate (TBP) - Analytical Number 4632 A five-inch foam layer was reduced to l/4"inch after the addition of 250 ml of water admixed with about 6% of TBP. b. Colloids X-50852-3 (Lot LB-10094) - Analytical Number 4633 This test showed that a five-inch foam layer was reduced to one inch after the addition of the Colloids antifoam and eleven (11) minutes of recycling. c. Tributyl Ethyl Phosphate (TBSP) - Analytical Number 4634 The sample of this antifoam reduced the five-inch foam lay er to about 1-1/2 inches after the eleven (ll) minutes of ~ recycling. FWK/jt F.W.
