I'm writing a story about a new study appearing in Science this week evaluating methane emissions related to oil and gas facilities. It finds that emissions from oil and gas facilities are approximately 60% higher than EPA estimates for the agency's greenhouse gas inventory. The primary explanation is that the study captures emissions from a small number of "super emitters" - facilities that have unusually high emissions. I would like to talk with someone at EPA who works on methane emission inventories, to get a better understanding of how EPA does those emissions, and how that compares to the methods used in the new paper.
