Actually I am entirely Certain that some deceit is being practiced either by the claimant alone, or with the assistance of some medical collaborator, I am sufficiently Interested myself in the mechanism of this collaboration or deceit that X am haring Mr. Cast come to the laboratory and I am going to offer him a short time job so that I can keep him under observation, in return for which I expect him to tell me the truth of this matter, I shall probably never know the truth unless I induce him to make a clear breast of it. For scientific reasons, and for other reasons which concern the investi gative work of this labor^pry, X feel disposed to make it quite clear to Mr. Jfl^Pthat there will be no penalty to him of any kind if he will tell me the truth. Moreover I have been interested in making some experimental obser vations on individuals with high lead content in the tissues and excreta. In any Case I can make use of him for a time and I hope I shall be able to obtain the information of use both to me and, perhaps, to you. I shall let you know what occurs if I am able to find out, but meantime I see no reason for delaying my report and for incurring additional expense for the state of Ohio. Ivehoe, M.D. Mr. F W. Gerard Mr. does not give any evidence of disease other than that localized in the upper respiratory passages. The general edema and irritation of the nasal and pharyngeal mucosa is secondary, in my opinion, to a purulent sinusitis involving the ethmoid and possibly the sphenoid sinuses* There are also scarred stumps of tonsils which appear to be involved in the general Inflammatory process* I can see no reason in history or physical findings for ascribing this condition to occupational factors. There is nothing very unusual about it, and 1 would be disposed tfi> treat it as an infectious process* The existence of a relatively high eosinophile count (7f&)~ suggests an allergic factor in the condition. Since protein sensitivities often play an important part in these condi tions, it would seem to be advisable for Mr* Gerard to have his reaction to food proteins studied, as well as pollins and other materials in his environment* Nevertheless, 1 believe the solution of his difficulties will be found to be mainly in a bacterial sen sitivity.
