Mr. Koenig, as a part of his assignment, has been coordinator for U.S. partici pation in the international food standards program which Is carried out through the Codex Alimentarius Commission. This is a joint activity of the Food and Agriculture Organization and World Health Organization of the United Nations. C&MS Administrator S.R. Smith said this food standards work will now be headed up by George R. Grange, Deputy Administrator for Marketing Services. To provide i continuity in effective U.S. participation, arrangements have been made for Mr. Koenig to continue to assist on a consulting, advisory basis. Purpose of this program is to harmonize International food standards work and bring into being standards that protect the interests of consumers in wholesome food, promote fair trade practices, and facilitate international trade. Mr. Koenig has had wide experience in agricultural marketing, both nati nally and internationally. Joining USDA in 1933, he rose to become Executive Assistant to Secretary Clinton P. Anderson. In post-war years, he surveyed European food conditions, took part in UNRRA conferences dealing with them, and served as a mem ber of the U.S. Food and Agriculture Survey Mission to the Far East. In 1949, he developed a comprehensive agricultural program for Puerto Rico, and he has made similar studies for Guam, Guatemala, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Paraguay, and American Samoa. In 1962, he was `assigned to American Samoa to put the recommendations of his study into practice. Mr. Koenig is the recipient of USDA's Honor Award for Superior Service, and of the University of Connecticut's Distinguished Alumni Award.
