McLaughlin regardjliPW<U^ the information MrParks received from FDA on a prior visit. The information concerned the production of myocardial hemorrhages induced in chickens by Aroclor 5460. Dr. McLaughlin said that study revealing the heart damage was done by the Nutrition group and he did not know if these results could be reviewed. He will check with Nutrition and let us know through Dr. J. D. Early. Dr. McLaughlin reviewed his discussion with Mr. Parks and Dr. Early and stated that the following would have to be done to entertain a petition for Aroclor 5460 as a hot-melt adhesive. 1) Characterize Aroclor 5460 to show the presence or absence of any other chlorinated material. ) McLaughlin believes the toxic principle to be a chlorinated something other than terphenyl which appears in larger quantities in the lower Aroclor series than in 5460. 2) If and when Impurity is found give procedure for removing it. 3) 90 Day chicken feeding study to show no effect on myocardium.
