Primary Skin Ir r it a tio n Study - Rabbits
To determine the degree of ir r it a t io n , i f any, which the subject material may produce when applied to the intact and abraded skin of albino rabbits. The test was performed in order to c la s s ify this m aterial under the Federal Hazardous Substances Labeling Act.
The method employed in the te s tin g , evaluation and the scoring of the results was s im ila r to that described in Section 1500.41 - Hazardous Substances and A r tic le s , Administration and Enforcement Regulations, Federal R eg ister, V o l. 38, No. 187, P- 27019, 27 September 1973-
In carrying out the study the experimental sample was used as supplied. A group o f six albino rabbits were clipped over a wide area. One side of the animals' backs was abraded at one s it e with a lancet s u f fic ie n t ly deep to penetrate the stratum corneum but not enter the derma to produce bleeding. The skin of the other side was allowed to remain in ta ct. A 0.5 gm portion of material was applied to an abraded and an intact skin s ite on the same rabbit. Gauze patches were then placed over the treated areas and an impervious material was wrapped snugly around the trunks o f the animals to hold the patches in place.
The wrapping was removed at the end o f the twenty-four hour period and the treated areas were examined. Readings were also made a fte r seventy-two hours. The Draize method of scoring was employed. Both s ite s (in ta c t and abraded) were examined dry as well as a fte r treatment with water.

Resui t s ; Concl us!on:
See Table 1.
Based on the accompanying tab le, the subject material would not be c la s s ifie d as a primary ir r it a n t to albino rabbits within the d e fin itio n of the Act-Reference: Section 1500.3 (c) (1) and requires no cautionary labeling with respect to that section.
