Callicott of Esso Standard in Memphis was contacted in regard to his letter of May 1st requesting copies of instructions for the blending plants* He advised that he had seen no information in his records or Safety Manual as to the operations of the blending plants and would like to have a set* Copies covering the operations of their two types of plants were forwarded even though they are using competitive fluid and I am sure that copies are available in their Memphis Office as well as at each of their plants* He was advised as to our practice of instructing blending plant personnel, reviewing operations and Medical Regulations annually and quarterly inspections* It so happens that the day after I contacted Mr* Callicott I was advised by an employee of Esso in Nashville that it is rumored that Hale V.r. Holland, formerly Terminal Superintendent of their Chattanooga Terminal, has lead poisoning. Mr. Holland has been sick since October 1949 at which time they could not definitely diagnose his case. He has been in the hospital since that time and I think at present is in Nashville at the Vanderbilt Hospital. I have known all along that Holland was sick and have ask about his health at intervals but this is the first time I have heard the lead poisoning rumor. Although Callicott in Memphis made no comment as to Holland's illness I wonder if there can be any connection between his asking for the instructions and Holland*s illness.
