Dear
Thank you for your message to Commissioner Sinkevicius on the technology developed by your company to destroy PFAS. He asked me to reply on his behalf.
On the regulatory side we have two on going processes to restrict PFAS use in the EU under the chemicals legislation (REACH).
The Commission asked the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to prepare a restriction dossier on all PFAS in fire-fighting foams. This dossier is now being discussed in the ECHA's Scientific Committees. If a restriction is adopted, there will be a need to dispose of the fire-fighting foams currently in use that contain PFAS. As you mention that your technology is also applicable to PFAS fire-fighting foams, I would invite you to contribute to the public consultation which is on-going on this restriction process until 23 September1.
Additionally, a group of national authorities is working on a restriction of all the other uses of PFAS2. hi this case, the dossier is expected to be submitted at the beginning of 2023 and a public consultation will be launched later in the year.
Yours sincerely,
'e-signed.
