OHC-65 12. Vinvl Chloride Monomer Study
Mr. McCormick reported for the Vinyl Chloride Monomer Sub committee that they had selected the research proposal from Industrial Biotest as technically adequate and most advantageous from a cost standpoint. The subcommittee recommended that their proposal, with a possible reduction in scale of effort.(if neces sary to accommodate available funding) on study of acetylenederived VCM, be presented to the vinyl chloride manufacturers and users as a suggested protocol.
This recommendation was moved, seconded and carried and the Secretary was asked to proceed with plans to hold a meeting of representatives of the vinyl chloride industry to consider these matters. He was also asked to ascertain the current status of Dr. Viola's research and available results before any such meeting.
The question was raised as to whether an epidemiological survey of vinyl chloride workers to determine the incidence of cancer or other lesions suggested by Dr. Viola's work might be in order. It was decided to delay any decision on such a survey until more lab oratory data was available from lower level exposures.

OHC-66 14. Future Meeting Schedules
The next regular meeting of the Committee was scheduled for Wednesday, April 5, at a site to be determined later.
If necessary to expedite the vinyl chloride research program, the Committee expressed an interest in an early December meeting, subject to the call of the chair. Their attention was called to the December 13-14 schedule of the Safety and Fire Protection Committee.
Respectfully submitted
