TO: SEE BELOW Subject: PAMM MACKEY ASSIGNMENT
PLEASE COMMUNICATE TO YOUR ORGANIZATION...... .
Effectively immediately, Pamm Mackey has been temporarily assigned to cover the follow-up effort to complete the C-8 monitored testing. Last year we were requested by Howard Smith in Wilmington to do a tour study of the assignments where C-8 monitoring was being done. This was to provide them with data for a study to determine if we were taking personal samples on assignmentsa that were no longer required because of their low exposure to the C-8 chemical.
At their request I Contracted for Carl Swartzmiller to begin this monitoring process. He was followed by Bert Anderson, who finished up what we / at that time thought was all of the data needed to satisfy the computer program. Recently, Smith contacted us and requested that we take additional samples on the following assignments to complete the necessary data for the program to evaluate.
Parnrn began Tuesday monitoring these assignments. She will be taking three samples on each of these assignments: Fine Powder Pack-out operator; First Line supervisor/detail in Polymers; Granular Polykettle operator; First line supervisor/detail Maintenance; General day mechanic (TA, Fine Powder, granular, dispersion); and six samples on the Shift mechanic for the area. his effort should take about 4 to 5 weeks to complete. I have been given a deadline of May 1 to have all of this completed and the results to Smith in WiImi ngton.
Therefore, I will appreciate any and all cooperation from your operators and mechanics. Pamm has prepared a schedule of the assignments and will be eontactng the area supervisor for the name of the person she is to ask to wear the monitoring device for the day. She will try to rotate the monitoring so that a person will not have to be ask but one time to complete the testing. It is most important for us to get this data to Smith so that he can evaluate the results and give us feedback as to what assignments we can change the monitoring frequency or possibly eliminate all together.
The monitoring effort consists of an operator, mechanic or supervisor wearing a C-8 personal sampling device for a 6 hour period during his normal work day. Pamm will be required to spend the day with the individual perparing a log of the air space occupied by the individual. She will be

keeping a log of the different areas in which the operator, mechanic or supervisor works during the S hour period. In addition, she will be indicating any personal protective equipment/clothinq required to perform the assignment. All of this information will be sent to Smith along with the lab results for entering into a computer program to determine the need for C-8 monitoring. I assure you this data is NOT being used for any type of a time study as some people may think.
If you or any of your people have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Roger Zipfel. We will expect complete cooperation from the people ask to wear the monitoring device.
Thanks for your help.
