I also believe you told me water bottom samples were no longer necessary, so we might include this in a general letter to all of our men if you think it advisable. Lewis Dear Mr. Lewis: I have taken up the matter of cleaning tanks and obtaining samples from tanks used for storing leaded gasoline in the field with the various sales engineers of companies operating in this territory. In view of tire fact that, it is not always possible for them to notify us in time to have one of our men present when tanks are cleaned, I have requested the different sales engineers when it is not possible for us to he present for a cleaning, to secure samples from these tanks which we will later pick up and forward to our Cincinnati Laboratory. These samples will he collected in accordance with the in stinct ions that have been issued to our safety engineers, and of course the cleaning will also be done in accordance with our rules snc. reguiati :>ns . In cases where possible we would appreciate knowing ir. ad vance the location of the plant where tanks are to be cleaned so that we might have our renresenta.tive present to secure these samples. On the other hand, if time does not permit having one of our represen tatives present, we would greatly appreciate your ins true ting the men engaged in this work to secure from each tank approximately one gallon of bottom water, one quart jar of bottom sludge, and one quart jar of sice scale. Kindly advi e our Los Angeles office in either event; that is to say, either have our representative collect these samples, or where it is possible, obtain these samples after they have been se cured by your men.
