Schaefer Gentlemen: We have just started to steam out the German drums which we received from you and apparently have nearly had a very bad accident as a result. One of the men working on the job while a drumwas being steamed apparently was overcome with the fumes from this drum. The symptoms were a tightening of the muscles end anaesthesia. On examination of this drum that he was working on, we find that it is labeled as having been used for bulk storage of tetra-ethyl fluid. The drum, however, being so badly rusted on the outside that this stencil is hardly visible and would have never been noticed except for the effects of the vapors on the operator. Would you kindly advise us by return arimail if there is any danger from single exposure of this type and what your methods of treatment are. If you believe it of sufficient importance, please wire us.
