By AIR MAIL D anr Mr. Turnr * Several days ago I forwarded prints of three air systems to Mr. Fred Johns, P.E.# N.Y. State Labor Department's Division of T'yrjieno. Last Friday I talked to Fred about those and ho ached me to come Cut to discuss the systems with him. Sometime between last Monday and Friday he visited the Akron Plant ar.d viewed some of the aroa.s and had some conversation with Bill Hammer. I have been in phone contact with Bill and John Russell in an effort to bring these jobs to a satisfactory conclusion. Fred is very fearful about the bag packer and bag slitter systems because of the asbestos fibres being used in*the process. He asked mo if I would use my influence in try*j^o get this system increased in capacity by possibly 25/5* At this moment 1 do not lcnov; what this will involve# but immediately I see the obstacle that Otton has already quoted you and I have quoted them on the orecent system. Clearances are tight# but I believe the dust#* collector could somehow be fitted in. I am talking about a change from 5b0 sq. ft of cloth (6 ft dia.) to 6b0 (6*-6" dia.) a change of nearly 20. The primary collector would also increase from 52" to about 38". No one here# of course# want3 to authorize such a change. Regarding the bag slitter hood and the scale booth close by# Fred wants 200 and 100 PPM face velocity respectively. There appears be bo sufficient air to give these figures. Before looking over this system for approval# Fred wants a drawing of the entire system of which these are the tail end. This will require our measuring tho system and making a drawing of it. If you have ahy drawings on this system in Portland# prints might help us to save time. The greatest concern of the Division of Hygiene centers in th.is department. They want to know* the complete complement of ingredients that will be run in either installation# which# by the way# will apply to both systems in this building. I told Fred the applications for approval would come from Portland# but with raised eyebrows he hope^they could be done here, proferrably by my making tho applibations by acting for your com pany.
