The Oder given off will be chlorine gas which is very irritating. if the batch starts to decompose on the mill, you will notice black streaks, smoke, and a strong oder of chlorine gas. What to do: For Banbury: Put on mask located by banbury. Remove batch to outside as quickly as possible (do not run),. Put batch on gravel away from building. Report Incident to your foreman. Turn in your mask for cleaning. For Mill; Use the same procedure as the banbury. The only exception is that * after you put on the mask, the mill has to be reversed to remove the batch. Get buggte from banbury; if batch is large, get help. It may require two buggies. Place most on one and the excess will break off. Place remainder on second cart. % Note; People assigned to remove burnt batches should practice covering the route to outside with mask on at least once a quarter and a record should be kept of these driI Is. Masks should be checked weekly and cleaned each time after use. Masks should be stored with straps 8 full open. Persons who are assigned to jobs which would require masks must pass a pulmonary function test. This would exclude people with heart conditions or breathing problems.
