Thank you for taking the time to meet with ACEC and members of its Superfund Work Group on Thursday June 15.
ACEC appreciates the direction and challenge provided to you by the Administrator in the review of EPA's Superfund program. We trust that the study Superfund 2017: Clean-up Accomplishments and the Challenges Ahead will provide a valuable foundation for your efforts to improve the program.
We believe the Superfund program is a national accomplishment that both protects human health and the environment and promotes infrastructure and economic development. However, due to declining levels of funding, Superfund's accomplishments have waned over the past few years. It is important to note that the recommendations discussed during our meeting, which are intended to support the enhancement and acceleration of the program, will require the use of streamlined approaches, innovative financing ideas, and a steady, maintained level of funding.
We look forward to regular and periodic participation in development of program changes to accelerate clean-ups and reduce costs. We, as industry, support the multiple land and water restoration programs that have evolved under innovative models of performance improvement.
