Sergent Asbestos Exposure Monitoring Attached are the results of the Asbestos monitoring done in 8uilding 770 on June 23, 1986. R. E. Raines and R. P. Hess were monitored while they removed approximately 15 feet of Asbestos from a steam line inside of the S-5 air handler during off-hours. They were equipped with disposable coveralls, boots, disposable dust mask, gloves and head cover. The air handler was shut down and the area was barricaded. Plastic was put on the floor, under the steam line, and excess water was used for wetting down the insulation. The Asbestos insulation, as well as the plastic was removed very diligently. The floor was flooded with water and vacuumed. The sample results show that for the very short sampling time, the potential exposure to Asbestos was low. If it was averaged over an 8-hour period, it would be well below the permissible exposure level of 2 fiber/cc of air. An 8-hour average was not established because both R. E. Raines and R. P. Hess indicated that they worked with insulation, that may have contained Asbestos, earlier in the day before this job was done. Please inform R. E. Raines and R. P.
