Ellis Jr. From : David Horecka June 15, 1984 ASBESTOS REMOVAL FROM STEAM FLASH TANK - DIAMINE AREA On May 24, 1984, Zachary Construction removed Asbestos from the 30-70 lb. Steam Flash Tank located in the Diamine Refining Area. Periphery monitoring was done to ensure that the roped off area was below the TLV for Asbestos of 0.5 fibers/cc >5 microns in length. Three "spot checks" were made to allow for variations in weather data and work load changes. (Sample location and weather data are noted in Tables II and III.) The samples were obtained using NIOSH Analytical Method P&CAM 239. Calibrated Bendix 44 high flow sampling pumps were used to pull ambient air through a 37mm cassette with a Millipore AAWHP 0.8 um MCE filter in line. Airborne Asbestos fibers were trapped on the filter. The cassettes were analyzed by the Clayton Environmental Consultants, Inc. for Asbestos fibers greater than 5 Microns in length (fibers/filter). The results show that Asbestos periphery levels are well below the TLV (Table I).
