Strapping Tanks 1.0 Objective: 1.1 To complete this job without damage or injury to equipment, product, the environment or personnel. 2.0 Responsibility: 2.1 It is the responsibility of the operations supervisor and the senior operations specialist to ensure that this procedure is complied with. 2.2 It is the responsibility of the senior operations specialist and the operations specialist to ensure that this procedure is executed in a safe and efficient manner. 3.0 Safety notations: 3.1 Monogoggles are required when opening pressure vacuum relief valves (PVRV's), flanges or strapping hatches. 3.2 One breath of 100% nitrogen will cause unconsciousness immediately. 3.3 Two people are required to strap a tank. 3.4 Stand upwind when venting nitrogen from a tank. 4.0 Special notations: 4.1 If something is dropped into the tank, notify supervision immediately. 5.0 Procedure: 5.1 Make sure nothing is pumping in or out of tank. Block in the nitrogen to the tank. 5.2 Vent the nitrogen off of the tank by removing the PVRV, strapping flange or opening the strapping hatch. 5.3 Strap the tank. 5.4 Replace the PVRV, strapping flange or hatch.
