MURPHY Superintendent Risk tfS.I. 26*17 O.D. 11909-22 Dup Bailey Attn: Jim Clyiner Dear Mr. Clyiner: On December 15, 1975 an investigation was conducted at Frigidaire, Division of G.M.C. in Dayton, Ohio, by Michael F. Goyda in order to evaluate the conditions under which the claimant had worked. According to information provided by Bill Dunn, the Safety Supervisor, the claimant's work history was as follows: 6/2*l/*l6 - 11/22/53- spraying porcelain li/33/53 - 5/6/5*1 - assembly 11/ *4/7*1 - 7/9/75 spraying porcelain 7/9/75 - off sick Air samples were collected in the porcelain spraying area (Dept. #jl6) on operators performing tire same work as the claimant and under similar conditions. Air sanples were collected for total dust containing silica using a personal sampling pump operated at 2 liters per minute and a polyvinyl chloride filter with a 37 millimeter diameter and a 5 micron pore size. Air samples were collected for respirable dust containing silica using equipment similar to that used for the total dust samples. However, the pumps operated at a flowrate of 1.8 liters per minute and a 10 millimeter nylon cyclone was used. All the air samples were collected in the employees' breathing zones. The samples were sent to the laboratory where the dust concentration was determined gravimetrically and the per cent silica determined using X-ray diffraction. The total dust results are listed in Table #1 and the respirable dust results are listed in Table H2. Sincerely Michael F. Goyda Industrial Hygienist MG:bs R TABLE I 1 frigidaYre, DIV. 0* G.M.C.
