I appreciate and share your concerns about maintaining fuel diversity and ensuring the reliability that is the foundation of our energy system in the U.S. I agree that we need to be thoughtful and prudent in planning for a smart energy future, by ensuring not only affordability and environmental protection, but also resiliency and safety. As we discussed, there are a number of factors shaping Duke Energy's investment decisions, including fuel prices, regulatory mandates, technology costs, and our customers evolving expectations for cleaner energy. We must strike a balance between these factors so that we can continue to power the lives of our customers and stimulate the economies of the communities we serve. Duke Energy has been delivering on our vision for a smart energy future by modernizing our system while continuing to keep our customers' electric rates below the national average. As many of us stated in the meeting, regulatory certainty is critical to the electric power sector as it helps stimulate investment and manage costs for customers. While there may be diverse opinions on the best path forward, we all share the goals of protecting the environment, improving the effectiveness of regulations and ensuring the reliability and affordability that electric power customers rely on.
