LOUISIANA 7070* SO* 0S7-A321 Ralph Langner Industrial Hygiene Services 607 Building MIDLAND, MICHIGAN 48640 Vinyl Chloride Unit, Louisiana Division Three week Vinyl Exposure Data Taken by charcoal method using Bendlx unit for eight hours per man. 10 min ppm data was calculated as if total (8) hour exposure was taken in 10 min. Where 10 min calculations exceed 50 ppm spot samples are run on all assigned duties for that particular Job classification. Twenty-six Individuals have been sampled in a two week period. The third week is presently in progress. Nineteen are below 50 ppm on 10 minute calculation. The other seven jobs are being spot sampled at present to Insure against surpassing 50 ppm for any 10 minute period. We are in the process of installing a 10 point continuous analyzer in production unit to be completed in approximately three to four weeks. Ralph, I have also attached our comments on the emergency standard and method and procedure for compliance. Would appreciate your feeling as to flaws in our interpretation. For the information of other Interested persons I would suggest that the type air line and air-pac units in use be checked. We are con verting to a "pressure demand" regulator. This is different from either the straight demand or constant flow unit in that a slight positive pres sure is always present inside the facepiece. R. G.
