"Mr. Fields i3 a high class gentleman and is at the present Vice president of the Fanners national Bank of this city, having assumed this office daring the last year. prior to that time he was editor of the Oklahoma Farmer, in which connection he became very widely and very favorably known. He was born in Iowa, was educated in Penn State College and is, I under stand, favorably known to a great many people high in Republican circles in your state. "To my mind the most important thing about John Fields is that he is not a follower of isms, does not believe that the regeneration of the American farm can be attained by legislation and nothing else and is generally a clear, sound thinker. I do not know Mr* John Fields, bat I do know Mr. Raymond, who is a very good personal fridhd and a very sabstantial man in every way, and I am con fident he woald not make any recommendations which were not soand and worth considering. 1 am ander the impression that the president is looking for the right man to fill this position, and if ha shoald decide stpon Mr. Fields I shoald expect he would acquit himself creditably, and be an asset to the Administration.
