RE:
VISITS TO FINDERNE - ASBESTOS/WATER
STUDIES
Attached is a copy of a letter from Ed Fenner confirming that the Public Health Service people will visit Finderne on May 15 and 16 to review the results of the studies, conducted to date, on possible water contamination from asbestos-cement pipe.
You had felt that this might be an opportune time to invite representatives of the Nashville Board of Health and Vanderbilt University.
Since I will be out of town next week, I WQUld suggest that you deal, directly, with Ed Fenner about this possibility.
Among the points I am sure you will want to cover with Ed are:
1. Whether or not PHS would ~bject to having the other group of people invited at the same time as their visit.
2. Just what kind of data we will have to show to PHS and/or the other group by May 15.
3. Whether it might be possible for PHS to issue invitations to the Nashville Board of Health and Vanderbilt people to join them in visiting our Research Center. The rationale behind such an approach would be that Dr. Bistowich, Dr. Snell and the others have asked the PHS for advice; ergo PHS could have a reason for inviting them to "come along and see" on May 15 and 16.
4. While it would be nice to have the Nashville and Vanderbilt people present at the same time as the PHS representatives, I know you would agree that the first obligation is to accede to the wishes of
