Paul Logue ; /i,i- For a period of the last six or eight months we have had considerable quantities of Aroclors, particularly 1242, 4465 and 5460, which were badly off color. There may or may not be other points on which they are just as far off-grade as they are in color although this is not apparent. I think our Aroclor production has been under way long enough so that definite specifications should be set up on all Aroclors and that no material be shipped that does not comply with these specifications. In the case of Aroclor 1242 we have for the last several months worked off 10,000 lbs. or so of material that was very much off color. The samples of the stock which we have on hand now are apparently very good. Our present stocks of Aroclors 4465 and 5460 are not up to standard and these shortcomings we believe have a serious effect on the possibility of establishing new accounts and in some cases of holding the old &ccounts for these Aroclors. Specifications for Aroclors 1254 and 1260 have been set up for the accomodation of the General Electric Company. In making up specifications for all the other Aroclors I hope that you will make an investigation so that the specifications are rigid enough to cover the best material that it is practical to make and not be drawn necessarily to cover present stocks. I have been told that the reason for the off grade Aroclor has been that of defective equipment and that new equipment is now being installed which will make it possible to produce a superior product.
