All metal surfaces shall be wire-brushed, removing all abrasions in the priming coat, rust, scale, hum, sad shall be thoroughly sanded, cleaned and touched up to matdi priming eoat. 4. All concrete masonry and plaster, bard white and cement surfaces specified to be painted above Cellars shall he cleaned of aU accumulated dirt and foreign substances; they shall he dry brushed and left dean, ready for painting. Before painting all holes, dents, hollow places, joints, cracks and irregularities in piaster, cement, concrete or metal work, shall be filled with an approved "Sparkle" mix ture suitable for the material and purposes. Sparkled places shall he finished to a smooth hard even surface. Holes in concrete caused by air bubbles % inch and less in diameter need not be sparkled unless occurring in dusters which impair the appearance of the work, in which case, they shall be sparkled. Any exposed concrete reinforcing ohairs or other accessories shall be sanded free of all rnst or scale and touched up with one coat of an approved primer designed to seal off stains. 5. Previous to painting or finishing, all woodwork shall be thoroughly cleaned and sandpapered, and all nail and sorew holes, dents, hollow places, joints, cracks and irregularities shall be puttied up with linseed oil putty. 6. Snots and pitch streaks shall be shellacked before painting. 7. The woodwork shall be smooth and free from aB raised grain or other surface imperfections before finish coats are applied. 8. 'Where painting is called for an concrete surfaces, the concrete shall be thoroughly cored and dry. and free from all foreign substances. Where cement paint. Material No. 19 is to be applied to concrete surfaces, after all patching, cleaning and rubbing, the entire surface shall be etched and wire brushed for proper cement point bond with a dilute solution of muriatic add and then washed off with dear water. Section 10--FAINTING 1. The Contractor shall he assigned by the Inspector to certain rooms in the Cellars of the Buildings in which he shall store his materials. All paint rooms shall he provided with lock said keys; 1 key for each room shall be furnished to the Inspector who shall have access to those rooms at all times. 2. The Contractor shall provide foam type 2% gallon capacity fire extinguishers as required by the New York City lira Department for each paint room. He shall keep all paint rooms dean and free from oil rags, waste and debris. He shall pro tect the finished floors with suitable coverings and shall not nse any plumbing fixture or waste pipe for the disposal of any waste mis, paints or other materials. 3. Paint and finishing materials shall be free from skins, lumps or any foreign matter when used and pigment fillers and other materials shall he kept well stirred while bring applied. 4. Each eoat of paint shall be evenly worked out and allowed to dry before sub sequent coats are applied. Each eoat of paint shall be a different tint from that of the preceding coat. Plaster wall surfaces, except where enamel is used shall have final coat of paint stippled with brush or roller to a fine atipple.
