We were pleased to find a ll of the counts to be vary low, Indicating excellent design and maintenance of jour dust exhaust jetea.
I t is d iffic u lt to set an accurate MAC (maximum allowable con centration) for the dust liberated into the air at jour various Zejlo processing machines. An analjsis of dust fron the dust collector was analjted by the laboratorj of the U. 5, Public Health Sendee and as
found to contain 13t free silic a and 5 to 12% asbestos. As both of these
Materials have about the sane degree of to x ie itj, an MAC of 20.0 Billion would b* permissible, assuming the dust breathed bj the men to be the
same that caught in th* dust collector* Experiments bj a great number of investigators over the past jears hare shown that dust at
the breathing le v e l of the workers often has a different analjsis than dust caught in ths collector. The explanation is a matter of particle
sise -- certain parts of the raw material break up more read ilj than
others and result in different analyses for different site fractions of dost.
