SHREVEPORT ASBESTOS PERFORATED FELT
In reply Co your nemo of 8/19/71 regarding Che quality of the asbestos felt made during the record run of August 13th, I have discussed this run with Dick Potter and he has sent me samples taken at random from the run.
{
It is my understanding that there were some wet edges from weaving, especially at high machine speeds, but that they strike-in within 24 hours, if not too wide, and that no wet edges are shipped. The daily inspection report of the two shifts showed an average saturation of 49.3 and 50.4 percent with all rolls checked exceeding the 40.0 percent U/L minimum.
Samples from 10 rolls taken at random were received from FS, There was no evidence of wet edges. The average percent saturation as determined by FBI was 48.4 percent with all samples above the 40 percent minimum. The average weight per four square roll based on the samples received was 62.1 lbs. The perforations were not as open as we would like with only an occasional hole showing light through it.
Based on the samples received from Shreveport the overall quality of the asbestos felt made during the record run was good.
