SULFATE - DEVELOPMENT - NEW PRODUCTS - "AFFLAIR" - FINISHING EXPERIMENTAL LARGE FLAKE GOLD HURRICANE CLASSIFICATION
As requested, nine drums of Lot 1381, SF-72 (large flake gold) have been processed through the hurricane classifier at Newport. As agreed, and based on the evaluation of the Lot 00580 classification, the material was not mikropulverized and the product was collected from the oversize chute of the classifier.
Six different combinations of classifier speed and air flows were used in order to evaluate this classifier variable. A summary of the test conditions is attached. Samples of the classified material have been sent to you. All remaining material from this batch will be kept at Newport until you advise as to disposal.
Two points which can adversely effect quality and should be investigated further if this is the eventual classification process are:
(1) Contaminants such as pieces of kiln brick or rust, etc., end up in this product.
(2) Hard agglomerates of calcined material are not completely broken up and end up in the product as small (1" to 1/4") hard lumps. Samples of these lumpts have been sent to you.
It is believed that some method of pre-screening or scalping will be required to prevent this contamination.
