I understand that this is the first such meeting being conducted by the Agency in the country. For our part, I hope this session is the initiation of regular discussions between the states and the Region on the various dioxin activities, some of which have already commenced. It's my strong.feeling that the EPA as it undertakes the planning and implementing of the national dioxin strategy can only benefit from close cooperation and information sharing with the states, who often posses the clearest understanding of environmental problems in the field. With routine communication and coordination between us, I think it will help EPA in turn be responsive to needs and ideas raised by the states concerning dioxin.
