These included: a . Handling of potentially explosive ships by rep air yards, and b. Revised W alsh-H ealey Public C ontracts Act Safety and H ealth S tandards, particularly threshold lim its on noise and asbestos dust. As directed by the B oard, the Safety C om m ittee consid ered these subjects at its m eeting A pril Z, and its recom m endations to the B oard, based on extended d iscussion, are: A sbestos F ib er Health H azards in Shipyards These problem s require close scrutiny, prom pt action and coordination w ith p arallel efforts in other in d u strie s. To this end, the Council should request all m em bers to.provide any in fo r m ation they m ay have as to studies being m ade of these p ro b lem s, visits from research groups, and so on. Contact w ith the public relations firm of Hill & Knowlton, Inc. w hich now re p re se n ts Johns M anville C o rp ., and with the A m erican M edical A ssociation w as also suggested. R epair Y ards T here are som e obvious d iffe ren c es of opinion on this m at te r, and th erefo re it is recom m ended that a survey sim ila r to that m ade in 1963 should again be m ade to determ in e the p re se n t p ositio n of the individual m em bers of the Council on this question.
