approval is issued only for the basic material and epeclfiealy excludes
any covering.

TERMS: The approval of the item described on the fane of the Certificate has been based upon the subasins) of satisfactory evidence that the item specified herein complies with the applicable provisions of the nivigatioo-advessel inspection laws and the applicable regulations in Chapter I of Title 46 of the Code of Federal Regulations. The approval is subject to any conditions noted herein or in the applicable regulations governing the use thereof, for use on merchant vessels subject to Coast Guard inspection or on certain other vessels and motorboats as may be required by law or regulations.
Consideration will be given to an extension of this approval provided application is made 3 months prior to the expiration date of this Certificate.
When materials or devices covered by the approval set forth on the face hereof are to be in production, the Commander of the Coast Guard District in which the factory is located shall be notified in sufficient time to assign an inspector to the plant for the purpose of making any necessary inspections or tests.
The approval of the item covered by this certificate is valid only so long as said item is manufactured in con formance with the details of the approved drawings, specifications, or other data referred to. No modification in the approved design, construction, or materials is to be adopted until same has been presented for consideration through the Coast Guard District Commander and confirmation received that the proposed alteration is accepta
ble.
NOTICE: Where a manufacturer of safety-at-sea equipment is offering for sale to the maritime industry, directly or indirectly, equipment represented to be approved, which fails to conform with either the design details or mate rial specifications, or both, as approved by the Coast Guard, immediate action may be taken to invoke the various penalties and sanctions provided by law including prosecution under 46 U.S.C., 481, which provides in part:
`Any person who willfully and knowingly manufactures or tells, or offers for sale, or has in his possession
with intent to sell, any lifesaving, firefighting, or other equipment subject to the provisions of title 52 of the Re
vised Statutes, as amaided, which is so defective as to be inefficient to accomplish the purpose for which it is in
tended. shall be fined not more than $10,000 and may, in addition thereto, in the discretion of the Court, be
imprisoned far a term not irrreedlng five years.*
