I regret very much not having answered your letter of March 31st sooner, regarding scale from side plates of a gasoline tank which you analyzed.
You asked for the length of time that had elapsed since the plates (and scale) was in contact with gasoline. The tank was cleaned October 27, 1947, and gasoline was in the tank up to within a few days of the time the tank cleaning started. The samples were taken about February 23, 1948. This would give an elapsed time of about four months between the time the samples were taken, and the time it was in contact with the gasoline.
Yours very truly.
