TOXICITY AND SAFE HANDLING STATEMENT
SKYDROL 7000
Undiluted Skydrol 7000 applied to the eyes of rabbits produced mild erythema of the conjunctival area with barely perceptible, edema. The iris -and cornea remained clear. A petroleum base fluid tested similarly caused slightly more irritation. We know from experience with humans, however, that the burning sensation and pain when humans accidentally get the material in the eyes is out of proportion to the observed effects in animals. In the case of such exposure, pain may continue for several hours and irritation may extend up to 48-72 hours. There is no danger of permanent damage to eye tissues, however. Treatment for eye contact is immediate flushing with water and the application of one of the cortisone-type eye drops. Drops of 6.5^ pontocaine ophthalmic solution may also be placed in the eyes to relieve pain.
Human experience with this fluid has shown it to be neither a primary skin irritant nor sensitizer. It is an excellent solvent for the naturally occurring oils on the skin surface. Repeated and prolonged skin exposure may lead to the removal of the oils and lead to drying and cracking. Consequently, we recommend that repeated and prolonged skin contact be avoided.
There have been no cases of systemic toxicity resulting from exposure to Skydrol 7000 since its introduction in 1948.
