VCM Because of a recent high VCM exposure reading on one technician while testing incoming monomer car samples, the 1 liter monomer containers will be replaced with the 30 ml cylinders that Flemington Quality Control is setting up to use. These cylinders and the appropriate valves have been ordered, and when received will be placed into service. The use procedure will be the same for both plants if possible. II. IN-PROCESS A. Copolymer A recent run of 390 copolymer for Nixon was found to be unaccep table due to high contamination counts. Also the current 315 run has had some periods of high contamination counts. The dryer has been shut down and cleaned, and counts appear to be dropping off to near normal. Contamination counts on 390 type for Nixon are presently being run at increased frequency to more closely monitor production. During this report period, a shift to very low bulk density pro duct occurred in a run of 315 type. This problem lasted approx imately three days before a return to normal levels was noted. Also, during this period problems were encountered in dumping some 390 batches from the strippers because of lumping. It is felt that the hot water being added to these batches may have caused this lumping. Irreversible PTU's were run on samples of dried material being pro duced during these problems and on retained samples from a period before the current severe stripping conditions were instituted. Re sults of these analyses showed no difference in the plasticizer absorbtion abilities of these resins. Samples of this material were also submitted to the Analytical Lab oratory for bound and residual acetate analysis. No unusual results were noted in these analyses. COLORXTE 013022 Page 2 PLANT Firestone 9300 (225/16R) '\ Five truckload shipments of 9300 type PVC were received and tested during this period. No unusual properties were noted during routine Quality Control testing. B. Spanish Resin One Sea-Land container of Reposa resin was submitted for testing during this period. Control charts were prepared on most properties of this resin for the recent Compound Spec Review meeting. C. Portugese Resin Four samples of Portugese 25100 type PVC were received and tested during this period. No unusual properties were noted during routine Quality Control testing.
