SWAN-LOCK The needle-free access system SWAN-LOCK Safer working practice In recognition of the concerns over needle-stick injuries, CODAN is pleased to offer the SWAN-LOCK needle-free system. This is another CODAN product which offers increased safety for both patients and medical personnel. SWabable Adapter Needle-free The SWAN-LOCK enables easy addition and removal of fluids, is simple to handle and provides a secure, effective infection barrier, reducing the risk of infection to the patient or medical personnel. Prior to each use, the top surface of the SWAN-LOCK shall be swabbed with disinfectant according to hospital protocol. Microbial barrier is tested, 140 activations over a 7-day period. A protection cap is not necessary. When in long term use on a patient, the SWAN-LOCK should be replaced according to hospital protocol. Universal connection The SWAN-LOCK is compatible for use with several Male Luer-Lock and Luer-Slip syringes, extensions lines and other transfer systems. Whilst the SWAN-LOCK will readily accept Luer Slip fittings, it is recommended that Luer-Lock fittings are used for additional security where the patient will be unattended by the care giver. It should be noted that needles must not be used with SWAN-LOCK. SWAN-LOCK range For combination with CODAN Systems like single, double and triple lumen extension sets, Drip SWAN or other CODAN Components like 3-way stopcocks or Y-sites, we provide a shortened SWAN-LOCK component. All SWAN-LOCK components are free of metal. The design allows multiple activations, making it a cost-effective alternative for all hospital departments. In liaison with clinicians, CODAN constantly develops new products to meet the changing requirements of the healthcare market. SWAN-LOCK closed SWAN-LOCK opens automatically when connected Valve mechanism The valve mechanism of SWAN-LOCK automatically opens when a syringe is connected. On removing the syringe, the connection automatically closes. This results in a closed system, preventing the escape of blood, fluid or the entry of air. The Male connector on the adapter guarantees a safe connection to catheters, 3-way stopcocks or other Female Luer-Lock adapters. Minimum priming volume The short SWAN-LOCK version has a priming volume of only 0.07 ml. Flow rate The specific design of the SWAN-LOCK gives low flow reduction (16 %), thereby achieving improved flow rates over similar systems on the market. Material The SWAN-LOCK is made without Latex and PVC and is compatible with alcohol, lipid and blood. The transparent housing and compact design make it easy to use and allows visual inspection. SWAN-LOCK for infusion management The SWAN-LOCK is universally applicable and has a priming volume of only 0.09 ml, enabling precise dosage.
